{post #23} minor Game of Thrones casting

I adore Michelle as Catelyn; I think she really does a great job, especially since she wasn't what I was expecting, but come on, how fabulous would it have been to have Scully Gillian play Catelyn? We all know she's a fantastic actress and makes a very pretty redhead, not to mention the HBO show would have gotten some X-Files fans watching.

Since the finale I've warmed up to Sophie Turner a bit, and I'm trying extra hard since I know she's here to stay. However, sometimes I just can't help but picture Freya playing Sansa. First of all, she's got a starling, otherworldly beauty that I always saw in Sansa. Second, after seeing her in Skins, I think she could play Sansa really, really, really well. I've seen her do depressed and I've seen her do cheerful and she does both in such a Sansa-like manner. Just dye her hair auburn and we're golden. I mean, she might be a little older, but HBO aged up Sansa anyway.

I REGRET NOTHING. Ruth will always be my Melisandre. I've only actually seen a single episode of Luther, but Ruth captivated me. She's such a stunning exotic beauty, and can play creepy and intimidating excellently. Her fiery red hair is perfect for Melisandre, and I can just see her right now, giving birth to that shadow.

I'm sorry to say these pictures don't really do her justice. She's so much sexier in action. I first noticed Emmanuelle on The Borgias, looked her up, realized I've seen her in other movies, and then my love affair began. Like I said, these pictures don't capture half of her beauty or sex appeal, and I think with the proper sort of makeup and costume, Emmanuelle would perfectly capture Arianne's soul.

Apparently Katie McGrath is a huge fan of the books and would love to guest star on the show? Well, this is the perfect role for her! I'll be the first to admit I don't think much of Katie's acting, but she's just so pretty. Plus, she has improved somewhat; she was pretty fabulously arrogant in the Merlin Season 3 finale, so I think she could definitely pull off Lady Nym.

No offense to Lena because I love her, but I just can't seem to picture her as Cersei. I mean, I like the way she plays her, but it's so different it's almost as though we're seeing another character. With Tabrett, we've seen her play an utter badass in Legend of the Seeker. We've seen her proud, angry, and fierce. We've also seen her, in that single episode on the show, be sweet and kind but with an inner strength. I think she would be able to perfectly encapsulate Cersei's barely concealed contempt and anger at the world. Plus, Tabrett is stunning.

Gillian Anderson basically played Catelyn Stark before in Bleak House, and I would've really liked to know that HBO was willing to hang its Star Power on a female character.

Katie McGrath as Nym, I could see it. I really hope they cast her with a nonwhite actress, but apart from that I can't complain with an object of so much of my girlcrushing energies.

That's all I know here XD But everyone looks visually perfect, esp. Mavor as Sansa.

Gillian plays a rather emotionally repressed woman who has a lot of maternal angst and woe ^_^ It's a great adaptation, and Charles Dance is in it too (one of the best parts of it).

I only remember Tyene being described as fair, Nym is very sophisticated but that's all that's coming to mind (2 AM, etc!).

Nym is described as being super pale, too, actually, when she rides up on her sandsteed next to Doran's litter.

*Barges in uninvited* well, for once I happened to have my copy of ADwD at hand's reach and Nym is described as "languid, elegant, olive-skinned, her long black braid bound up in red-gold wire". Granted, "olive" is more about the undertone than the actual shade and one can actually be olive skinned and pale imo, but I doubt that it's the first thing that comes to mind in common speech. So perhaps there's a bit of retcon going on here.

Yes I think it must be a retcon, I had the vision of Nym as pale before ADWD but I was admittedly too lazy to look up a reference quote XD Ah well, technically she can be olive skinned and pale as you say, even olive skinned people can fail to get much sun but you can still distinguish their skin from a Caucasian complexion.

So AFFC, at least, definitely supports the fancasting above, lookswise!

I checked AFFC and Nymeria is described as having "milk-pale skin" - maybe it's such a minor detail that GRRM misremembered it in ADWD or thought he might as well as change his image of this minor character a little bit?

I'm just going to pop in here and say that fair skinned people of color/non-white people exist, too. We're not all dark or brown or olive. This has been coming up quite frequently in ASOIAF fandom recently and it's driving me up a wall. I'm not holding out hope of non-white actresses being cast as the women of Dorne (because when does that ever happen when casting agents/producers/directors can just as easily cast a white woman . . . spoiler alert: practically never).

Love,
A fair-skinned POC

Love Ruth as Melisandre.

I love Gillian and Tabrett. They're both amazing.

there's more women...she could be a Sand Snake. :)

I fell in love with the idea of Monica Bellucci being Melisandre but Ruth would be a good choice too. Other than Gillian and Emmanuelle I don't know these other actresses, except Katie. I love her on Merlin but that's probably because I don't really expect a lot from that show so whenever I see Colin do something brilliant it's wonderful and I forget that well Katie's not that good an actress, lol. I think they've done such a good job with all their casting that she'd really have to impress beyond her beauty. There are so many beautiful actresses out there who can act very well too.

I love Michelle Fairley so much that I can't deal with any thoughts of recasting Cat, but I'm sad the Ruth Wilson fancasting didn't come true the way Sean Bean as Ned did.

Very nice! I specially like your Cat and Nym =)

I find your choice of Ruth Wilson as Melisandre fascinating - I only saw her in Jane Eyre, where she is supposed to be the very opposite of a sultry beauty, but it might just work.

And Emanuelle Chriqi would be a perfect fit for Arianne - her North-African roots would go very well with the "Moorish Spain" vibe that I get from Dorne in general.

seriously. that second picture is basically how i pictured arianne in my head
